Top 10+1 Beaches in Samos, Greece

Updated: 3 days ago

Samos is an island with approximately 80 beaches, some of which are small and hidden, while others are larger with amenities and beach bars. In this blog, you will discover the best beaches based on the unique experiences each one offers.

Hi, I'm Giorgos. I have been working as an outdoor guide in Samos since 2011. In this blog section of Samos Outdoors, I aim to write some articles that provide useful information for travelers visiting Samos Island. My goal is to help you avoid unexpected surprises and "traps" when touring independently. Of course if you are looking for a guided tour you are always welcome to chose our services for group or private tours. Today, I will share some tips with you for my top 10 beaches in Samos!!!

As I’ve been looking through the web all these years, I see plenty of people trying to find the best five to ten beaches around the island of Samos. Of course, that can’t represent everyone because we all have different interests. Instead, I will try to present the best beaches of Samos depending on the experience you are looking to have from each one.

Sandy beach Samos - Psili Ammos

Psili amos

As I understand, most of the northern Europeans are looking for a beach with sand. There are not many sandy beaches around Samos, so if you are looking for a place with shallow waters, calm weather, and golden sun, my recommendation for the best sandy beach in Samos is Psili Ammos.

But wait a moment… there are a few beaches with the same name. All of them are amazing, and you can choose the one that suits you better.

-Psili Ammos at the east with the amazing view of the coast of Turkey and a lot of options from the beach bars and restaurants, a perfect option if you are already staying in Pythagorio and the nearby area.

-Psili Ammos at the west with less sun beds and equally nice waters. It is perfect if you are already staying in Kampos and Limnionas.

Cave Beach & Cliff Jumping - Kaladakia beach

When I'm seeking to fulfill my guests' desire for stunning photos in a sea cave with beautiful blue water, or when I'm in the mood for some cliff jumping, I always visit Kaladakia beach that placed at the south west part of Samos.

The cave is located on the left side of the beach, and you can find the cliffs by swimming in the same direction for five minutes. Always exercise caution when cliff jumping, as there are multiple dangers; it's a good idea to bring water shoes.

Kaladakia is a small, cozy spot that also offers the option to relax on the sun beds and enjoy the view of Mount Kerkis and the other islands across the sea.

Sunset beach in Samos - Potami Beach

Potami beach samos

If you are staying in Pythagorio, Kampos, or Kokkari, it can be challenging to have a direct view of the sunset due to the orientation of these villages.

My preferred beach for watching the sunset is definitely Potami, from the balcony of the Agios Nikolaos chapel. Potami beach features pebbles and offers nature enthusiasts the chance to also enjoy the Potami waterfalls, located in a nearby area of the beach.

Boat tour beach in Samos - Samiopoula

There are several boat trips offered in Samos, including both private and group options. You can also rent a small boat and explore on your own. Regardless of your choice, you'll discover many "hidden gems" in the area.

My favorites are the all time classic beaches of Samiopoula on the small island near Samos and Lakka beach on the east side. The water there is almost always calm, and the sea's color is crystal clear.

*The only thing that can disrupt this paradise during the high season is the overcrowded boat tours with large groups. In such cases, it's worth spending a bit more (around 50€/extra) for a private boat trip.

Wind surfing beach in Samos- Kokkari

At the windsurfing place in Kokkari, the atmosphere is vibrant and inviting, making it an ideal destination for both seasoned experts and eager beginners. The unique microclimate of this stunning location plays a pivotal role in creating optimal conditions for windsurfing enthusiasts throughout the day. For experienced windsurfers, Kokkari offers consistent and reliable winds that challenge their skills and allow them to perform advanced maneuvers with confidence. The diverse array of wind patterns ensures that they can find the perfect conditions to test their limits and enjoy the thrill of the sport.

On the other hand, beginners are equally well catered to in this enchanting locale. The gentle breezes that characterize the mornings provide a safe and encouraging environment for those just starting their windsurfing journey.

Beach into the nature - Mikro & Megalo Seitani

If you're seeking a remote paradise, Seitani Beach is your ideal destination. Nestled away from everyday hustle, this hidden gem offers a tranquil escape into nature. Reaching it requires an invigorating hour-long hike from Potami through the stunning landscape of west Samos, known for its breathtaking beauty.

As you hike, lush greenery and soothing natural sounds enhance the serenity. The trails feature vibrant flora and possible wildlife sightings, with fresh, invigorating air filled with sea and earth scents, perfect for reconnecting with nature.

Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by a spectacular view, with emerald green cliffs reminiscent of Thailand's tropical coasts. The vivid blue sea contrasts with the deep green cliffs.

This remote paradise immerses you in Samos's natural beauty. Whether relaxing and swimming in crystal-clear waters, or absorbing the scenery, this hidden beach offers a unique escape, leaving a lasting impression. Disconnect from the world and embrace the tranquility and beauty of this remarkable location.

This beach stretches over an impressive length of more than 4 kilometers, making it one of the most expansive and inviting shorelines in the region. Situated on the picturesque side of Pythagorio, the beach is renowned for its crystal-clear waters. Plenty of beach bars line the coast, allowing you to find one that matches your style. At the same time, there is ample space for those who wish to isolate themselves and find a quiet spot on the coast.

Additionally, for aviation enthusiasts, there's a unique thrill in watching airplanes approach Samos Airport, conveniently situated just a short distance away at the beach's corner. The sight of aircraft descending close to the water creates an exhilarating experience, giving the impression you could almost reach out and touch them as they land.

Moreover, a highlight of this beach is the variety of water sports available, providing opportunities for adventure seekers to engage in activities. From jet skiing and motor water sports to kayaking and SUP, there's no shortage of fun options to explore the beautiful Aegean Sea. Overall, this beach is not just a place to relax; it is a destination filled with endless possibilities for enjoyment and adventure.

The must-visit beach bar of Samos - Livadaki Beach

Upon reaching this location, a wave of emotions and feelings arises, challenging to put into words. Reaching this magical spot isn't simple; it involves some driving to this remote area of the island called Livadaki Beach. The last 10 minutes require driving on a gravel road. Yet, as soon as you set foot on the soft, warm sands of this stunning beach, any uncertainties or regrets about the trip vanish instantly.

In this truly remote location, the stunning setup of the Livadaki Beach Bar stands out, nestled among an array of palm trees that sway gently in the sea breeze. This idyllic setting creates an incredibly inviting atmosphere that enchants every visitor. The beach is ideal also for families with kids because of the sallow water, making it a perfect getaway for everyone.

The overall experience in Livadaki beach is one that captivates the heart and soul, making it a destination worth visiting for all who seek a blend of sea beauty and leisurely enjoyment. Whether you are looking to unwind with a book, engage in playful activities with family, or simply soak in the breathtaking views, this beach offers an escape that is both rejuvenating and memorable.

Beach for snorkeling and exploration in Samos - Tsabou Beach

This beautiful pebble beach on the island's north side, near Kokkari village, offers a serene atmosphere with amenities like parking and a beach bar. What makes it special are the hidden beaches on either side, providing a tranquil escape from the rest people.

I love visiting when the weather is calm for snorkeling, especially to the inaccessible beach on the left of Tsabou, surrounded by unique rock formations. The clear fresh waters enhance the experience, making each visit feel like a refreshing adventure. This blend of natural beauty and discovery makes it a cherished spot and unforgettable experience.

Nudist Beach beach in Samos - Tsamadou Beach

If you're in the mood to enjoy the sea and sun and want to feel completely free without your swimwear, there are a few mostly remote places around Samos like Mikro Seitani, Mikri Tsabou, and other small beaches where no one will disturb you.

The most popular nudist beach in Samos is definitely Tsamadou. Tsamadou Beach, located just 3 km from Kokkari. This beach features a pebbly shoreline and is situated in a picturesque bay, offering visitors crystal-clear waters ideal for snorkeling. While windy days may bring some waves, the charm of Tsamadou remains undeniable.

Upon visiting this location, you'll notice it's a well-organized beach with sunbeds and facilities. However, the right half is designated as a nudist area, complete with a beach bar that serves drinks and snacks.

The most welcoming hospital atmosphere - Papa Beach Samos

Papa Beach has undoubtedly emerged as a cherished destination for Samos island visitors over the past year, particularly for those who find themselves drawn back to the enchanting shores of Samos time and time again. The beach has gained a reputation not just for its natural beauty but also for the welcoming atmosphere that envelops it.

The main highlight of this picturesque beach is undoubtedly the family that manages the place. They are truly wonderful people who have dedicated themselves to transforming the space surrounding this small, rocky beach into an idyllic retreat where visitors can relax and unwind. Their warmth and hospitality create an inviting ambiance that makes every guest feel like part of the family. Whether it’s through their friendly smiles or their willingness to assist with any needs, the family contributes significantly to the charm of Papa Beach.

The beach itself offers a cozy, intimate environment that many travelers seek when they embark on their vacations to the island. With the amphitheatric terraces with views of turquoise waters, Papa Beach provides a perfect backdrop for a day of leisure.

*Get ready for the beach by taking your water shoes with you, as the beach is rocky.

*During high season, Papa beach can be busy due to its popularity.
