August 3, 1989 Olympic flight 330 crashed into mount Kerkis killing all 34 passengers and crew members. The plane named Isle of Minos gave no warning of trouble before disappearing from radar and it’s debris were found some hours later on the summit of mount kerkis. Dense fog was blamed for the crash. This was the first plane crash in greece after 13 years.
After to many years the parts of the airplane is still there and also luggage or pieces of personal belongings caught in branches and growing with the shrubs. All of this items now belonging to the mountain Kerkis in a hard accessible area with the name “Aeroplano” it means airplane.
The access to this point needs a lot of time raiding with the jeep car oandn the forest and after that a demanding hiking for almost 1,5 hr on the steap rocks of kerkis with a panoramic view like from a airplane… unit the crash Point.
