A morning spent participating in the works of a farmer for 45 minutes. After that we will take a break under the shade of trees for a local snack, water and a taste of souma. The trip continues to the winery and the wine museum in Samos town for delicious local wine tasting.
A morning spent with a traditional organic beekeeper and a bee biologist in a local apiary talking about the magical world of the bees, their society and how important they are as pollinators. After that, we wear our protection uniforms and have a look inside the hives. Delicious fresh honey tasting is also on the list! After a short break for a local snack and a taste of souma we will be going for a short hike to talk about the native flora of Samos.
During a morning walk by the olive grove, we have the chance to talk about the cultivation of the olive trees of Samos throughout the years. After this introduction, we move to the hands on experience: we choose our tree and we work together to collect the olives. After that, we take a break for a traditional snack and a taste of souma under the olive trees. The tour continues to the family-run olive oil mill in order to exact our own olive oil and to taste it on a hot fresh bread with wild oregano!
The distilleries have played an important role in the Samian tradition throughout the years. It is the way of the locals to continue the production of the delicious muscat grapes. After a short car ride we visit the mountain village distilleries, we talk about the process and we taste the final result… souma, ouzo and tsipouro next to the fire with a meze of fresh chestnuts and of course barbeque on the oven fire.
